Bruised is really a solid start for Halle Berry’s new directing prospects, landing like a typically “fine” movie filled with standard drama beats (though light on surprises). Berry and co-star Sheila Atim are wonderful, out of the box youthful Danny Boyd Junior. — though his character’s lack of ability to talk seems like a cop-out, or, a minimum of, a shortcut around some necessary conflict. The show, at occasions, slips too easily into needle drops and sparring montages to be able to tell its story, but Berries are a sensation when she switches on her behalf rage.
